1914 - the year everything changed.At the start of the year, life for 16 year old Grand Duchess Tatiana Nikolaevna of Russia followed its usual and expected course - lessons, trips to the theatre and opera, dinner parties and dances, entertaining foreign dignitaries, holidays in the Crimea and the Gulf of Finland. With the outbreak of hostilities, Tatiana’s life took a different course. Together with her mother, Empress Alexandra Feodorovna, and her older sister, Grand Duchess Olga Nikolaevna, she trained as a nurse and spent much of her days treating and helping the wounded, having a talent for nursing. She also developed romantic feelings for some of the wounded officers.In her diary, hitherto unpublished in English, Grand Duchess Tatiana vividly describes the events in her life as it irrevocably changed. Her coming of age was the beginning of the end of Imperial Russia, culminating in her father, Emperor Nicholas II’s abdication in 1917, and the murder of Tatiana and her immediate family and their loyal servants on July 17 1918 in Ekaterinburg.
