These hinges are designed for drop front desks and secretaries, mounted with the barrel facing up and flush with the wood surface. Crafted from solid brass, they are shown in an antique finish and come in four options. While we occasionally receive requests for hinges to be installed with the barrel down, the hinge mechanism makes this unfeasible for desks. Mounting a hinge this way on a desk would require extensive wood carving, weakening the structure. Despite the barrel being up, the hinge doesn't interfere with the writing surface.
