Genealogical research is a journey into the past, uncovering the stories and connections that define our heritage. For Keith Daniel Tavares, this journey explored his Faria and Moitoso ancestors, unearthing the rich history and legacy that has shaped his family. An Azorean Family's History delves into the significant findings of Keith Tavares' genealogical research, highlighting the origins, migrations, and contributions of the Faria and Moitoso families. He began collecting names, dates, photos, and stories as a boy, and as genealogical technology advanced, so did his research, which prompted him to travel abroad to mainland Portugal, the Island of Madeira, and the Azores, specifically the islands of Sao Miguel and Faial. These visits and his continued exploration of family history gave way to the writing of "An Azorean Family's History," a passion project conceived during the worldwide pandemic in 2020. A resident of Newport, Rhode Island, where he was born in the Naval Hospital, Keith is a graduate of Boston University, where he majored in political science and history. He has worked in higher education and the nonprofit sector for most of 30 years, having served as Vice President of Institutional Advancement for the large social service agency Child and Family in Newport and Middletown, RI. He currently serves as Director of Capacity Building for the Rhode Island Foundation in Providence, RI, supporting nonprofit organizations throughout the state. Read more
