From Wikipedia:
The band name "ARB" is taken from the initials of Alexander Ragtime Band. It's a quote from Irving Berlin's "Alexander's Ragtime Band." Initially, they also went by the name "Alexander Ragtime Band," but from the release of their third album, "BOYS & GIRLS," "ARB" became their official name.
Formed in 1976.
They debuted in 1978 with the single "Norainu (Stray Dog)." In 1979, they became independent after a conflict with their management, who wanted to market them as idols. In the 1980s, they gained attention as the second generation of Mentaiko Rock [citation needed]. They were characterized by releasing many songs on themes such as war, workers, and the state of society, and were also called a socially conscious band. Songs about labor are called "Work Song" and are one of ARB's trademarks.
The lyrics were almost entirely written by Ryo Ishibashi, except for a few songs written by Kiku (Toshiyuki Shibayama) of Sunhouse and a few songs from the first album. During the period when Hisashi Shirahama was a member, the credits were "Ryo & Hisashi," and Shirahama also wrote some songs. The music was composed by Ishibashi and the guitarists and bassists of each period.
In 1990, the band disbanded with a performance at the National Yoyogi First Gymnasium on October 27, as vocalist Ryo Ishibashi focused on acting. They reunited in 1998. In March 2006, Ishibashi left the band. Although ARB announced a hiatus, Ishibashi announced the band's disbandment.
