Atari and developer Digital Eclipse are proud to introduce a significant expansion to their acclaimed 2022 release, Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration. This new release, titled "Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration - Expanded Edition," includes the original release and adds two new timelines as well as 39 games to the playable Atari retrospective. The timeline "The Wide World of Atari ", which includes 19 playable games and eight video segments, delves deep into stories from Atari history and shows how Atari has continued to exert influence on creators and fans over decades. New interviews, vintage ads, historical artifacts, and more have all been explored and presented with the signature style of Digital Eclipse. Highlights of the new timeline include an in-depth analysis of Stern Electronics' robot-destroying Berzerk; unusual and underrated innovations and hidden jewels from the late 1980s; a spotlight on artist Evelyn Seto, who helped create the iconic "Fuji" Atari logo; Pong creator Al Alcorn, who created the Standung of Breakout explained; as well as an exploration of the role of the fan base in discovering unreleased prototypes, creating "homebrew" games, and preserving Atari history. The timeline "The First Console War", which includes 20 playable games and a handful of video segments, tells the story of the first major console war in the gaming industry between the Atari 2600 and Mattel's Intellivision. The team at Digital Eclipse curates an exploration of rivalry, including Mattel's idiosyncratic decision to develop games for the competing Atari 2600. Highlights include a selection of M Network games, including some fan favorites; a mix of Atari and M Network sports games, as well as some rare Atari 2600 and 5200 prototypes. New interview features include former Intellivision game director Don Daglow, M Network programmer Jane Terjung, David Crane and Garry Kitchen of Activision, homebrew programmer Dennis Debro, and historians Leonard Herman and Mike Mika. Features: Now with over 140 classic games, lovingly presented with first-class emulation and modern improvements in quality of life - as well as the opportunity to play classic games that have not been available for a long time.
