Calcium Gluconate Gel protects against Hydrofluoric Acid exposure. It consists of a 2.5% viscous solution of Pharmaceutical grade Calcium Gluconate in a clear water solution, it has no alcohol. It is a skin antidote to be used in case of accidental spills or contact with hydrofluoric acid (HF). HF is a dangerous acid used in a number of industries, it penetrates skin rapidly and causes serious skin burns unless immediately washed off with water and the gel antidote liberally applied, massaging it into the skin. The areas under the fingernails require special attention. HF takes calcium from tissues. The Gel provides substitute calcium so the acid does not take as much calcium from tissues. The Gel is a deactivator of the acid rather than a medicine to the body. It is to be kept close by whenever one is working with HF. Any case of exposure of HF after treatment with Gel needs to be referred to a doctor without delay no matter how slight. There are laws requiring organizations to have gel available if the acid is around. Store at room temperature.
