Hobby Master HA1405, a 1:72 scale McDonnell Douglas A-4G Skyhawk, served in the Royal Australian Navy's 805 Squadron, known as 'Checkmates'. After reforming in 1968, the squadron operated from HMAS Melbourne, with the aircraft initially featuring a red and white checkerboard tail, later replaced by a black knight figure. The plane, '882', was part of the squadron's aerobatic team in the 1970s, before being sold to the RNZAF in 1984. Despite a mid-air incident in 1989, it returned to service in 2001, ultimately crashing in January of that year.
