The Morris family of Floyd County, Indiana, were descendants of hardworking and faithful Welsh immigrants. Their oldest known ancestor was Thomas George Morris, Sr., who settled in Amherst County, Virginia, in the 1700s. He was a prosperous Virginia landowner and tobacco farmer. His son, Maurice Morris, Sr., migrated from Virginia in the early 1800s and settled in Indiana Territory, now known as Greenville, Floyd County, Indiana. He was among the first to settle in the Richland Creek area. Maurice had the same hardworking determination as his father which he passed on to his sons, Thomas, George, Nathaniel, Maurice Jr., and William. They were some of the first families of Floyd County, Indiana, and were instrumental in forming the various communities in Southern Indiana. Read more
