Trilogy by Whit Stillman

Throughout the 1990s, Whit Stillman, a writer-director, crafted a trilogy of films centered around the sharp-witted and heartbroken young Americans in New York and beyond. Set in the eighties, these films chronicle the decade's trajectory, starting with Stillman's Oscar-nominated debut, Metropolitan, which introduced viewers to the peculiar, endangered 'urban haute bourgeoisie' of New York. The story progresses with The Last Days of Disco, where Stillman nostalgically explores the closing of New York's nightclub scene through the lives of two young, party-loving women working in book publishing. Finally, Barcelona places two love-deprived upper-class men in a foreign city filled with anti-American sentiment.
